Ventus grew up on the streets. It was all he had ever known. Still, stealing wasn't what he wanted to do forever. That's why he snuck into the palace gardens in the first place. He hoped he could meet the sultan. And okay, maybe steal something valuable enough that he could have a decent meal for once.

Namine didn't have much to do around the palace. She didn't complain. She understood why she wasn't allowed to leave. But she sometimes daydreamed about what it would be like to see what lay beyond the palace.

She was sitting out in the garden now, drawing the flowers. It wasn't very exciting, but it passed the time.

Ven had snuck past her without even noticing Namine. He was too focused on that tray of fruit laid out. He grabbed a pear, and then an apple. Grapes, pomegranate, an orange. Oh this all looked so good! Accidentally knocking over a gold goblet, it hit the ground with a clang. Instantly, he looked around to see if anyone had heard it. He spotted Namine quickly and he probably looks a bit odd, a hand full of grapes, tattered clothes, and clearly not one of the servants.

Shoot. "Uh, hi. Please don't scream for the guards." Ven begged, taking a step toward her.

Lavi looked at the large, winding vines and plants covering the walls and blocking the entrance to the castle. His job is to kiss the princess and wake her up. A mission that suits him well~ He was more than happy to take it. Still, this was a problem. He whipped out his hammer and grinning, set the plants on fire.

"Heh. Lucky~ This looks like it's going to be an easy mission~"

The princess lies in a deep slumber. Her captor sits by her bedside, waiting.

She isn't your traditional witch. No black hat. No dark hair. No crooked nose with a boil. No. She's young. Small. Even pretty.

But she is a witch all the same. And it's her who cast the spell.

The prince draws nearer, she knows. He'll kiss the princess. She'll wake up. They'll have their happilly ever after.

She clutches the hem of her dress, bows her head.

She can't let it come to that. She didn't want to put the castle to sleep. She doesn't want to hinder the prince's journey.

But she can't let it come to that.

Lavi doesn't know about the witch but even if he had, he wouldn't have been bothered by it. He can defeat anyone who hinders his way, he's sure of it. Using his hammer, he extends the handle and hops over the high wall. He heads toward the castle, not the least bit afraid, coming to his first obstacle, the locked huge doors. He enlarges his hammer and smashes through them with ease.

"Such an easy assignment~"

She can hear the crash of the front doors being broken. She glances at the sleeping princess, wearilly.

"I don't understand. Why does everyone love you? Even people who've never met you..."

She shakes her head, turns her eyes to the door.

"Just because you're a princess."

He doesn't 'love' her. He would never admit to that, never allow himself to feel that way, about anyone. At least, he'd try not to. To him, this is necessary. She's needed for the history of the world. He scans the area, trying to find which route to take. He spots the stairs and starts climbing up them. Really, he's beginning to wonder why he was assigned. Anyone could do this.

She waits, watching the door. Hoping that her spell will put him under too. But it doesn't seem to be working on him.

She may have to face him herself. Head on.

Then what?

What good is she if her sleeping spell is no use?

But she has to try.

He hasn't sensed any spell but maybe the Innocence makes him immune to it. After all, her spells are darkness and Innocence resounds with light. In a way, they cancel each other out. He climbs the stairs, looking for the tower door.

"Princess~ I'm here ta kiss ya, yea~ Please don't slap me when you wake up!"

She inhales sharply at the voice. So close.

She tenses in her chair.

And then she stands up.

He's almost there. She has to stop him.

She opens the door, cautiously, carefully. She steps onto the landing, letting the door shut behind her.

"You can't. You can't wake her up. Please, turn back now. Leave this castle."

Lavi pauses, coming up short when he hears the voice. His hand tightens on the grip of his hammer, although it doesn't look all that threatening. It's a tiny thing, too small to appear to be anything but a joke, although anyone with magic will be able to sense it has power.

He heads up the stairs slowly, cautiously. "And why not, yea? It's my job ta wake tha sleeping princess~" He hums, acting as if he's at ease with the situation. "I can't leave yet."

He's... not what she expected. She expected a prince. And she's always had a very specific idea of what a prince would look like. Lavi doesn't fit the bill.

Is he a knight? A mercernary? A thief?

She doesn't know. But she knows she can't let him finish his job.

"Because she can't wake up. I can't let you wake her up. You don't understand. Please just leave. I don't want to fight you. But I will if you don't leave."

"Not sure who ya are but y'er lovely~" he hums in approval, giving her a proper look. "Y'er much too pretty ta be fighting, princess~"

He shakes his head and advances further. "It's tha prince's job ta wake the princess, yea? I might not fit tha bill but we were rushed for time. Sorry, princess, I gotta wake her up."

It upsets her to be called that. She's no princess. What a joke! She's the witch. The enemy. There's nothing beautiful about that.

"And I have to keep her asleep. I have to! If you won't leave... I'll put you to sleep too."

It's an empty threat. She'd have to use a different method. But she doesn't want to hurt anyone. The sleeping spell is the only one she knows that won't hurt him.

He shakes his head. "Sorry, I slept on tha way here. I'm not tired~ And besides, why would a pretty girl like ya want ta do something ya know is hurting someone? Surely y'er a victim too."

Even if she's the enemy, he doesn't want to hurt a girl. He won't hesitate for his mission though. He is a bookman first and foremost.

For a moment she looks frightened.

"I--I didn't! I haven't hurt anyone! They're just asleep!"

She shakes her head, presses her back to the door. He hasn't moved closer. She still thinks she can talk him into leaving.

"But they have to stay asleep. If they wake up...."

She tries to find her courage.

"You just can't wake her. Please, this is your last warning. Leave and let this castle stay under the spell."

"What will happen if they wake up, yea?" His voice is soft, coaxing. Listening to her story is part of his duty as well. This is all serving a greater purpose, to record the true history. Both sides, both "light" and "darkness", told objectively.

It's so... selfish. She knows it is. Her reasons. But she tells him anyway, hoping to appeal to him on some level.

"If the princess wakes up... there are people who will dissapear."

Her among them. The people of the castle are safe. They don't age. They don't move. They just sleep, frozen in time. She doesn't think it's so bad. She doesn't plan to keep them like this forever. She just wants some time.

"They won't sleep forever! I didn't even mean to put most of them to sleep. But they wouldn't leave the princess alone. They all wanted to save her!"

"Who'll disappear?" He frowns now, a speculative look on his face. He's stopped, rocking back on his heels. It might look dangerous considering he's standing on the stairs but he's light on his feet. He won't fall.

"I need ta wake her, yea. But first, I'll listen ta y'er story. Why did ya put them ta sleep and for how long are ya going ta keep them like that?"

"All of the shadow people. When the princess was born, they all dissapeared. No one could see them. Not even others like them. They were all alone. It's her light. It's too strong."

She keeps watching him, worriedly. Wondering when he'll just get fed up and try to break through.

"When she's sleeping her light isn't as strong. But they still can't exist in this world fully. They're trapped between here and there. I thought if she stayed asleep for a longer time they would be able to live freely again..."

She suddenly looks very concerned.

"I'm not trying to hurt her! I wouldn't--I love the princess as much as anyone! She's... my little sister."

He listens to her story intently. For a long while, he's quiet. Thinking. Sorting information. Plotting. He's trying to figure out a way to do this so everyone can come out of this happy. After a moment he sighs and runs a hand through his hair. "I still need ta wake her, yea."

He holds up a hand, to stop Namine's protests before she can even voice them. "I was sent here by an organization called tha Black Order. Maybe ya heard of them?" He wouldn't be surprised if she hadn't. This place was the most remote he'd seen. "We think y'er sister's a compatible. If that's tha case, the Innocence I have might help tha situation. Are ya willing ta try that much at least, princess?"

Ventus had been given the important task of freeing the prince from the tower. He gladly accepted but he had a major problem. He'd gotten a little lost in the forest surrounding her.

Living in the depth of a dense forest, far from the rest of civilization is very bothersome. She would need to travel to the nearest city or village to buy her—okay, their—daily needs every once in awhile. But it couldn't be helped; she need to bear with it if she wanted to continue keeping the Princess all for herself.

Riding her horse, she went through the magic barrier which keeps anyone but her and her household members from entering her abode in the deepest part of the forest. The magic barrier was necessary, you see, as people tends to enter the forest to look for the Princess. She didn't understand why they want to find the lost Princess, whose existence was a mere rumor, but maybe it was never her place to understand their motives.

And today she stumbled upon someone who appeared to be another one of those seekers. A young man with blond hair and seemingly lost due to the effect of the magic barrier. Nagisa sighed, but approached him anyway.

"Young man, what do you seek?"
